HISTORY OF THE VILLA
Remained intact in its architectural features as only few other villas of the hill of Torino, the Villa d'Agliè is immersed in a wood of carpini and hippocastans, gently positioned over a large square whose design is the same since the 18th century.
The documents of the house allow us to go back in time to the beginning of the 17th century, when the house was probably built. The first document dated 1610 proves the propriety of the Duke Carlo Emanuele I, son of Emanuele Filiberto and Margherita di Valois.
For all the XVII century the villa was the summer house of the family Bellezia, illustrous family close to the Savoia Family. Bellezia was the major of Torino and assistant and cashier of the Duke.
It is him who shaped the garden as we can see it nowadays, creating the large square and the walls sustaining the hill on the north side.
Immediately after the siege of Turin, the villa is transformed in residence by the famous banker Franco Colomba who was in deep relationships with the Savoia family.
After, the villa becomes propriety of the princess Del Pozzo della Cisterna, and than of the Fathers Barnabites.
In the firts half of the '700, count Ignazio Demorri of Castelmagno enrich the garden with numerous statues, and the main salon with four stucchi sculpted by Martinez, with the figures of the four elements.
At the beginning of the 1800 Jhon Foster, british embassador, transform the garden from "italian style" to a more contemporary romantic style, following the fashion of the century, planting two Cedar of Lebanon, Sequoias and Hippocastans.
From the end of the 1700 the villa is propriety of Benedetto Maurizio, Duke of Chiablese, last son of the king Carlo Emanuele II. With the Architec Caselli he does several changes to che villa and his garden.
In the middle of the 19th century the villa is than acquired by Pilo Boyl of Putifigari, moble family from Sardinia.
It was then sold to the Swedish Reynius and than was bought by the actual proprietaries.
In the 2007 the garden of the Villa has been inserted by the Piedmont Region in the official chart of the historic gardens of botanic interest.
